Give Them What They Want Saturday December 04, 2004 9:00PM PT Nintendo DS Games There are only three shopping weekends left before the man in red descends on houses everywhere. Of course, kids have to believe in Santa Claus for him to visit, and the older they get, the more they doubt. But before you give gifts from Santa the heave-ho-ho-ho this year, consider that one in four "Santa" searches is from the under-13 crowd. Even if the young folks in your house question St. Nick's existence, they certainly won't question gifts, whomever they're from. Whether or not you're donning a red suit this year, identifying the latest kiddy must-have is about as easy as maneuvering up a chimney with a bellyful of cookies. To help you get inside your kids' heads and wish lists, we're putting a few elves in your corner with these top searches by kids under 13: Half-Life 2 -- the highly anticipated follow-up to Half-Life lifts scientist Gordon Freeman to the height of cool. Apple iPod -- your kids want one, you want one, we want one. We sure hope Santa's got an exclusive deal with Steve Jobs. Levi's -- appearing on NBC's The Apprentice didn't hurt the brand's popularity. Rocawear -- urban fashion is hot. So is Jay-Z. So toss the turtleneck you were wrapping for Junior and kit him out in some fly sweats instead. Nintendo DS games -- despite being designed for adults, this new handheld is a hit with kids. And this is one gaming system you'll want to share. Goldfish -- the season for carnivals and the chance to win this pet is long past, but your kids may love one as a gift. Action Figures -- they're still kids at heart, and they still want dolls...ahem, we mean "action figures." Catwoman -- a feline Halle Berry has clawed her way into your kids' imaginations and now you can drop the DVD in their stockings. Pocket Bike -- they want it. But with top speeds in the 40 mph range, should they have it? We recommend the accompanying helmet. Tiger Army -- billed as psychobilly music. We leave it to you to figure out what that means. |
